Three ways to connect. One complete appliance.Arduino UNO Q with ASL3 at its core.

One compact build brings together ASL3, the UNO Q’s built-in LED matrix, an AllScan UCI145 or UCI150, a USB rotary macro controller, DTMF microphone control, and the documentation needed to build it again from a clean factory reflash.

The proof became an appliance

A radio node can become a complete operating surface.

The finished UNO Q combines a working AllStarLink node with visual status, three connection methods, physical controls, operating-safety timers, spoken confirmation, and unattended reboot recovery.

Three ways to connect

Use the screen, turn the dial, or key the number.

The operator is never locked into one control method. Each path reaches the same ASL3 node, so the best choice can change with the moment—or with the operator.

01

AllScan dashboard

Open AllScan on a computer, tablet, or phone for a visual list of favorites, current connections, and node activity.

02

Macro keypad & dial

Select favorites with the rotary control, then use the illuminated buttons for fast connect and disconnect commands.

03

DTMF microphone

Dial an AllStar node directly from the Alinco EMS-79 keypad—a familiar radio-style control that needs no browser at all.

Project overview

Arduino UNO Q

What began as a proof of concept is now a complete radioless AllStarLink appliance: visual status and timers, three practical ways to connect, spoken confirmation, automatic recovery, and a repeatable guided installation.

FULL DUPLEX

Transmit and receive at the same time.

The USB communications interface supports simultaneous transmit and receive operation, making this a true full-duplex AllStarLink node—not merely a conventional simplex hotspot.

What was proven

  • Guided installation proven from a clean factory reflash
  • Registration, linking, PTT/COS, audio, and parrot tests passed
  • LED matrix displays TX, RX, idle heartbeat, and operating timers
  • USB macro keypad and rotary station selection operate as designed
  • Direct AllStar connections work from the DTMF microphone
  • Spoken connect/disconnect confirmation and unattended reboot recovery verified
02

What the project includes

  • Guided installer script
  • Illustrated installation manual and operating user manual
  • ASL3 radioless node configuration
  • LED matrix traffic status and safety timers
  • USB macro keypad and rotary control support
  • AllScan UCI145/UCI150 and DTMF microphone operation
  • Automatic service restoration after reboot

Known limitations

Documented—not hidden.

  • The installer was prepared and proven on the 4 GB Arduino UNO Q
  • The UCI interface, microphone, speaker, USB hub, case, and macro controller are separate hardware purchases
  • A future version is planned to provide friendly operator maintenance of favorite-station tables
